| Sometimes when I'm bored... |
[18 Nov 2009|04:13pm] |
Every so often I'll go back and read old posts on friends' livejournals. Rarely, it's just for kicks. More often, it's to find the full body of a back-and-forth that I recall to be funny, but that's all I can recall.
Today I started sifting through psychicmayhem's journal in an attempt to track down the nephandic Michael Bolton's eternally-obfuscated real name in order to fuel my own theory on the (denied!) rumors of the Gaga-Bolton romance. I ended unsuccessfully, but did find several conversations I look back on fondly.
Odder, however, are the threads I look back on and have no recollection writing.
The answer is obvious: Monster Alex.

| Dreams |
[13 Nov 2009|09:09am] |
Has anyone else ever woken up earlier than planned, but late enough to not be able to get back to sleep proper? I woke up this morning but I wasn't done dreaming yet. I dreamt that Puffy was dead and that I was driving a car. There were others, too, many others, but I can't recall. All I do know is that they were a horde of things so mundane that it was notable that I would even dream about them. I woke up almost affronted that this was what my subconscious had to offer.
I don't recall what else I dreamt of in that indeterminate time between half-waking and actually rising, but I remember it was more of the same. Such ordinary minutia that mattered so little to me, it was almost maddening that I was having to dream it.

So I like this song a lot, and this turned up in a YouTube search for it.
And now I can't stop watching the video.

ambivalence "simultaneous conflicting feelings," 1924, from Ger. Ambivalenz, coined 1910 by Swiss psychologist Eugen Bleuler (1857–1939) on model of Ger. Equivalenz "equivalence," etc., from L. ambi- "both" (see ambi-) + valentia "strength," from prp. of valere "be strong" (see valiant). A psychological term that by 1929 had taken on a broader literary and general sense.

My laptop sucks. While it's not definately a lost cause this second, I've had it for a good while and have never been that happy with it in the first place. I'm looking for some suggestions, since I'm not the most tech-savvy person out there.

| Autumn and Inglorious Basterds |
[18 Sep 2009|09:15am] |
( Autumn plans )
I saw Inglorious Basterds last night with Kris. We consisted of 1/3 of the audience, which I thought was odd until I realized that the movie had been out for about a month now, and my time had just been devoured by the gaping void-maw of Dragon*Con. The movie itself was pretty kickass. A lot of the scenes seemed really slow, but in the end served to add to the air of paranoia. Tarantino also continued his tradition of showcasing women's feet. Hans Landa was an incredible villain, one I would not have been surprised to see standing shoulder-to-shoulder alongside the likes of Charles Odderstahl and Robert Craft Michael Bolton. Whimsically evil covers but the tip of the iceberg.
I also made this for all your scolding needs.

I've been sick for the past couple of days. I hate the changing seasons.
Saw Coheed and Cambria open for Heaven and Hell on Sunday. It was pretty damn rocking. Sadly, Co&Ca only played for about a half-hour, but the set list was pretty awesome. In no particular order: No World for Tomorrow, Welcome Home, In Keeping Secrets, Al the Killer, Ten Speed, and the Final Cut. Conspicuously absent: any song from Second Stage Tubrine Blade.
Dragon*Con is in next weekend. Progress on ANBU: Finish sewing straps to chestpiece Sew up black undershirt and sleeves Cut out and sew bracers Paint mask (may end up not doing horns. So much for my justification) Buy black kung fu pants Get wig and stub it Fix stub for wig
Being sick, I've spent a lot of time reading A Game of Thrones and playing Final Fantasy XII. I'm convinced that the writers / translaters of the latter read a lot of the former. I've heard the terms 'mummer' and 'motley' more times in the past few days than all points up until then.

A Quentin Tarantino film about killing Nazis with Murder By Death on the soundtrack?!
The only way this could get better is if you stuck zombie in there somewhere.

♥ The steady.
It's a really tough call. Squeenix, Suikoden, and Xenogears/-saga all have earned my loyalty, but each has also scorned me in their time (see below). I'm gonna have to go with Suiko, though, since it has had the least amount of offenses and is still ongoing. L5R, you'll never steer me wrong.
♥ The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp in the sheets. Rurouni Kenshin. One of the first series I started watching. Back when I had to download random episodes off of Kazaa and watch it piecemeal and completely out of order. I'm currently reading the manga. See also Xenogears.
♥ The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Xenosaga Episode II, and Suikoden IV. Bleach also, to a degree, since it started off really cool, but quickly became a big powerz battle with wan-mellion wan-handred meelion characters.
♥ The mysterious dark gothy one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 a.m. at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized he really was fucking crazy. Existentialism. I loved Waiting for Godot and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, especially the latter towards the end. Kafka was great. Then Albert Camus showed up. Our relationship's been a little strained since then. Hermann Hesse remains one of my favorite authors, however.
♥ The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor, and whom you'd still really like to fuck again although you're relieved he doesn't actually live in town. Code Geass. I spent an entire weekend just watching it, indulging in all the pros and cons doing so entailed.
♥ The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with. Hellsing. I've seen the series, but, from what I understand, that doesn't say much. I have also seen one of the movies and realize why the series is kind of bobo.
♥ The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with but ultimately you're just good buddies 'cause the friendship is there but the chemistry ain't. D&D and I fooled around throughout college and had a brief fling again when 4th Ed. came out. We don't talk too much anymore, but we're still cool.
♥ The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a hell of a cool guy except it's never really gone anywhere. Utena. I've given it a try, and I just can't get into it.
♥ The one who's slept with all your friends, and you keep looking at him and thinking, "Him? How the hell did he land all these cool babes?" Final Fantasy IX. I hated almost everyting about this game. I once played it up to the end and lost interest. Then went back and played through the whole thing some years later because 1) I thought I could give it another shot and 2) I was damned if I was going to let it beat me. I remained quite underwhelmed by it.
♥ The one your friend has fallen for like a ton of bricks and whom she keeps babbling to you about on the phone for hours, and you'd be happy for her except you just know it's going to end badly. Myself with FFXIV. Did you know that they're making it more solo-friendly? And that the job system's back?
Ironically considering my initial answer, I'm terrified that this will be what L5R becomes among my friends.
♥ The ones you repeatedly cheat on your steady with. Audrey is goddamn right. WoW WoW WoWwy wow wow. Marie and I bought another RAF account last night...
